Under the patronage of the Women’s Affairs Unit at the Laser Institute for Postgraduate Studies, and in collaboration with the Women’s Affairs Units of both the College of Engineering and the Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, a workshop entitled “The Role of Women in Promoting Positive Culture in Society” was held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul-Majeed, Dean of the College of Engineering; Prof. Dr. Kazem Abdul-Wahed A’adam, Dean of the Laser Institute for Postgraduate Studies; and Asst. Prof. Dr. Salwa Jabir Al-Awadi, Dean of the Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, along with a number of faculty members and advocates of women’s empowerment.

The workshop aimed to strengthen the role of women in building an aware and balanced society through the promotion of values such as tolerance, cooperation, and social responsibility, as well as fostering positive behaviors that support sustainable development and social cohesion.

The workshop included three research presentations delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Ilham Ali Bayawi, Head of the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Engineering; Dr. Hanaa Sami Basheer, Head of the Women’s Empowerment Unit at the Laser Institute for Postgraduate Studies; and Lecturer Fiyan Fawzi, Head of the Women’s Empowerment Unit at the Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology. The presentations addressed the concept and origins of positive psychological energy and highlighted the pioneering role of women in building cultural awareness and enhancing their active participation in sustainable community development.

The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations emphasizing the importance of strengthening awareness and educational programs that highlight women’s role in spreading a positive culture based on dialogue, tolerance, and social responsibility.
